Riding Out The Storm

'Riding out the Storm' is the moment when the fierceness of the storm changes garments that are worn from clothing to wings. She stands between our contemporary everyday tumults and the powerful reminders of greatness held in legend and folklore. And then she asks: are those who are capable of flying born like that? Perhaps. But, much more compellingly, it may be the terrifying nearness of the storm which calls forth wings from those who had never imagined themselves able to fly.
One of the sculptures who just tumbled out of my hands, as though she had always existed but had been waiting quietly for me to find her form...
She reminds me of a ships’ figurehead carving from times of old, set bravely at the prow of the ship: the first point of contact with the unknown.
Whatever that may be -
Beautiful or Terrifying.
Face first into the storm, allowing the force of the wind and sea to transform her garments... moment by moment... into wings.
