Alexandra and the Duckie
bronze
limited edition of eight
80 x 45 x 20 cm

It is the winter of 2011 and    Alexandra is just learning  to walk: fiercely and with a point of view of 80cm from ground level.  She is finding the world - her world – for the first time

Out of all the possible companions she has chosen a palm sized yellow celluloid Duckie, with a small hole just the right size for her one and a half year old finger.

For this time it becomes part of her newly found body: it has grown out of her hand and so touch travels with her.

Duckie sees her reality with her and mutely agrees with all she informs it to be.

It is confirmation, a witness.

I sculpt her as she ‘works’ with me in the studio. I study the miniature face at night when she is asleep, letting her stay in the studio.  I work - those formless pieces of clay - silent finger formed words that attempt to outline all of this ordinary, extraordinary achingly brief life.
