I Have Called You By Name
bronze
limited edition of eight
150 x 45 x 45 cm

No hands, no arms, no face: some accomplishments can never be retained or witnessed on features or by fingers.

The deep identity and personhood is hidden within.

She is the landscape of courageous, vulnerable moments brought into being for such a time as this - neither defeat not triumph define her.

She is called by her name to set in strong stone the untold mystery of her life.

She has never been before and will never be again.

Each has a different surface texture, colour and tone representing the uniqueness of what an individual is made of, their very matter.

A freeze frame of place, time and process.

The smoothness and scars are the writing on her surface skin - the braille that tells more eloquently than either portrait or gesture the story that is hers

These sculptures form part of a bigger installation in which each life size piece is cast from the earth collected from different parts of Southern Africa.
