The Reader
bronze
limited edition of eight
120 x 58 x 44 cm
The Reader sits transfixed in the pages of her book. She is so still that little sparrows have come to sit on her to see what she is reading… or perhaps they are part of her story and are coming to life as she reads then? The pages in her book are blank, unscratched by letters.
Because the story changes every day and every moment, and each person’s is different. But with the first mysterious moment when abstract scribbles that make letters, and those letters that make up words start to attach to themselves the reality they signify remains one that shifts reality forever.
It sets in stone the un-keepable and holds in time that which flits away even as it is written. She reminds me those Readers who can, with the courage of a child, decipher both.
