The maquette version of "You can sit under my umbrella" seems to invite the viewer to come and share her seat - together under one umbrella. She is a reminder and promise of secret moments sharing one small space... of whispered conversations and a time out of time.  The togetherness and understanding of being held together by one cover is at once a hope and memory. 

Marieke's sculpture seeks ever to celebrate the every day, making memorial of the seemingly ordinary events that, all strung together, are so much of what is to be treasured.
